Article 10: Construction site routine: one wall per day

After improvements to the press, we reached an impressive rate: one wall per day for the big ones, two for the small ones.

What seemed complex becomes routine. The teams now understand the process, the actions are effective. Learning translates into productivity gains.

There are 18 walls to make for the first house. One wall per day means approximately 18 days for all the fillings.

The weights in play

The large 4 meter walls weigh around 500 kilos when filled, the others between 200 and 400 kilos. To move them, they are rolled on steel tubes. With three people and good coordination it’s easy.

The persuader

We also use the persuader, a large mass that helps us “persuade” the straw bales to enter the frame. It’s simple and very effective for properly aligning the bales of straw on the wall.
