Article 6: The foundations arrive – Installation of Krinner screws

On September 25, the team arrived to install the Krinner screws which would serve as the foundations of the house. This is the system we chose because the land is sloping, which would have complicated a traditional approach with concrete and retaining walls.

With Krinner screws, we avoid all that. Less concrete, less impact on the ground, and faster to install. It’s more in line with the philosophy of the project. Preliminary field tests confirmed that the soil was suitable.

The screws sink almost 3 meters with a special machine. For our house (the West house), 16 screws are necessary. The second house (the East house) will have 14. All that in two days, without problem. The team brings all the equipment and the machine, they do the job, it’s clean.

Once in place, an oak rail is placed on the screws, and the straw floor boxes are installed directly on top. The foundations are ready.
